| INOCARB-3 is a potent chill elimanating inoculant for use in the production of thin/medium section grey iron casting. INOCARB-3 is a mixture of crystalline graphite and Zircograf. It therefore combines the "self inoculation" effect of graphite coupled to the strong anti-fade charcateristic provided by the inoculant Zircograf.
Principal characteristics
This formulation is extremely effective in reducing chill in thin sections and edge corners of grey iron castings whilst, at the same time, enabling adequate inoculation of the slower cooling, medium thickness casting sections. The presence of Sulphur in the base iron is an important factor determining the effectiveness and fading characteristics of this inoculation practice. It is recommended to ensure that the base iron contains a minimum of 0.05% Sulphur. This usually not a problem with cupola melted iron but with electric melting it may be necessary to make additions of Sulphur (iron sulphides) to the melt before inoculation.
