MOLYBDENUM, when added to chromium-nickel austenitic steels, improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion especially in chlorides and sulphur containing environments.In cast iron most percentage frequently used is 0.3-1% will increase effect of chill 1% is as effective as about 0.33% of chromium and neutralises the effect of 0.35% Silicon. The effect of structure will refine the graphite and pearlite. The chiefly used in combination with Nikel, Copper and Chromium in the production of high strength irons.
