Calcined Petroleum Coke (Carbon 99), CPC is the product from calcining petroleum coke. This coke is the product of the coke unit in a crude oil refinery. The calcined petroleum coke is used to make anodes for the Aluminum, Steel and Titanium smelting industry. The green coke must have sufficiently low metals content in order to be used as anodes material. Green Coke with this low metals content is referred to grade coke. The green coke with too high metals content will not be calcined and is used for burning. This green coke is called fuel grade coke.
Process Carbon 99 is Medium Sulphur recarburiser produced by calcining petroleum coke at temperatures in excess of 1400°C. The resultant product is very reactive and has a characteristic low nitrogen level. After cooling, the carbon is screened and bagged according to the customer requirements. The medium Sulphur recarburiser is ideally suited for a foundry producing both ductile and grey iron but mainly for Gray cast iron. The material is very reactive allowing it to go into solution rapidly without affecting the melting time and allowing for good recoveries. Recoveries of 85-92% should be achieved depending on the method and control of the carbon additions and the type (frequency) of induction furnace used. The low nitrogen levels will assist in the reduction of nitrogen pinhole defects in the castings.
